Rustici Engine has supported xAPI (the Experience API) since 2011 when we created the initial version for ADL. The last big overhaul we made to xAPI data storage in Engine was in 2015. Time and time again we’ve thought about taking advantage of that in Engine, but concluded the gains wouldn’t be worth the added complexity.

The ongoing work of learning standards

And then the IMS (an initiative of Educause before being spun out as an independent effort) started creating standards, as did the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the major body in the US responsible for computing standards. ADL decided to create a new standard, the Experience API (xAPI; originally known as Tin Can).
