I keep seeing lots of "tips for using social media tools in training" but not many concrete examples. Certainly the bigger goal is to help training become less an event and more a process, and to support ways for workers to form communities and interact with one another -- not just with the trainer. Ideas for other activities?

The assumption that the only point of university education is as the means to better employment options, and should therefore be replaced with vocational training, brings with it a disregard for its less-tangible benefits. I feel that far from limiting those opportunities, we need to look at expanding them.

As I left -- after a one-item cash transaction that took maybe 5 minutes -- the cashier said, "They told me that in training but I hadn't done it before. In this first instance, performance support could have supplemented, or likely replaced, training simply by programming help screens and prompts. Sorry, but I forgot."

They are always more interested in buying an LMS they don't yet need (and often don't even really know what it does) than in designing anything resembling effective online training. All you are doing is measuring the exact rate that the training department is hemorrhaging money out of the company.
