E-Learning Provocateur

Occupying a place on the continuum somewhere between a VLE and a PLE, an ILE is an informal learning environment that a facilitator manages on behalf of a group of learners. Unlike a PLE, an ILE is communal. Exploit Web 2.0. A touch dramatic, isn’t it?

THE EVOLUTION OF LEARNING

Origin Learning

The term personal learning environment (PLE) describes the tools, communities, and services that constitute the individual educational platforms learners use to direct their own learning and pursue educational goals.

The iPod Video & e-Learning Looking Glass

Vignettes Learning

The cool thing about iPod is the way I can organize, listen, and purchase music anytime I want. The holidays are coming and I must find a justification for buying (as a gift to myself) the iPod Video. Currently, I am enjoying my 40 Gig iPod for music and have downloaded hundreds of my favorite songs. I can personalize my iPod. I've also added audio books and have now tested Podcasting files. I am however, amazed with how my fellow trainers respond to technologies in this case the iPod.

LearnTrends: Microlearning

Experiencing eLearning

Microlearning – the learning that results from “micro” content published in short form and limited by the software and devices used to view it – offers alternatives to traditional development methods for workers who deal with web-based information as part of their job. No repository (unless you view the whole web as a repository). Do you think many people at your organization can do this kind of learning without guidance? Politics of institutions vs. individuals: LMS vs. PLE.

Circle Up - communicate messages to your organization without email confusion. open source web 2.0Like most people who develop and manage training for a living, especially at small to medium sized companies and non profits, I have learned to do a lot of work using free and open source software tools.

Personal Learning Knowledge Work Environment

Tony Karrer

What this has come to make me realize is that for the vast majority of knowledge workers (including myself), there should be no separation between my Personal Learning Environment (PLE), my Personal Knowledge Management system, and my day-to-day set of tools that enhance my knowledge worker productivity. Certainly PLE and PKM would seem to be too limited, right? Central to my PLE is the people I work with and the applications I use for communication with those people.

Tool Set 2009

Tony Karrer

I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? But I'm worried, because while I just got through writing about my concern in Using SharePoint that learning organizations seemed to be making the same mistake of Not Preparing Workers for Web 2.0. This made me look back at a post I did quite a while ago - Personal Learning for Learning Professionals - Using Web 2.0

Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion

Tony Karrer

There's a great deal of discussion about whether or not a PLE should be a single tool or a collection of tools loosely joined. This is talked about a bit in Personal and Group Learning Using Web 2.0 I'm not quite happy yet with PWLE (p-Whale) as a unifying term - but I prefer it to either PLE or PKM because both of those seem to be taken; somewhat limited in their scope and also seem to imply separation from day-to-day work

Using SharePoint

Tony Karrer

SharePoint is so flexible and the documentation for it is so big and diverse, that a big part of my goals have been to understand the different ways that training organizations are using SharePoint. The reality is that what we did on the Work Literacy course or what I did for my Collaborative Learning Course could easily be supported by the various types of web parts within SharePoint. This is similar to support for courses and much of the web parts used, follow-up techniques, etc.

Micro-Learning: Its Role in Formal, Informal and Incidental Learning

This same web phenomenon translated to the corporate environment can be an immensely powerful mode of capturing the organizational hive mind – the explicit and the tacit knowledge residing within an organization. In this post, I have looked at micro-learning from the point of view of efficacy as well as applicability.
