SCORM’s premise, not what it can or cannot do, was its huge premise of interoperability—far more so than AICC. In the late 80s, AICC, the predecessor to SCORM, was born. Fast forward to the early 2000s, and a US government-sponsored group, the ADL Initiative, took the best of AICC, added some much-needed changes, and SCORM 1.0

So I researched but quickly got lost in the minutia of details and acronyms -- AICC, CMI, SCO, XML, ECMAScript, manifest, packaging, and API. For instance, you could track only certain details such as who took your course, when they took the course and what was their score. Instead of looking at learning data as a bunch of numbers of who took the course and how much they scored, Tin Can would focus on learning experiences. One of it was the lack of an in depth-report.

In case your e-learning course is not SCORM compatible , the LMS will not be able to track it and generate reports such as course completion, time spent on it, and the score. A few LMSs are compliant with SCORM, a few are compliant with AICC, and a few are compliant with both. The Course Content. or SCORM 2004.
