In today’s post, I’ll show you how to build a laptop monitor inspired by the free laptop image file you can get from the psdGraphics site. Center it and then fill it with your wallpaper image. But sometimes it’s just easier to build what you need.

Instead of your normal click next navigation, you use icons to link to the slides in the course. What I’d do is treat each screen the same as a slide and then use clickable icons to reveal the course’s information. Here are a few ideas to think about if implementing this type of template: Each slide is a distinct screen.

A key is to see each slide (which becomes a Flash movie) as a piece of information. Many of the slides have the same core content because usually only a few things change over a series of slides. So instead of making copies of slides with the same stuff on them, put as much as you can on the master slide.

Create textured backgrounds by layering transparent images. The reason I do this is because I can identify the links on the slide. But if I create a shape just for the link, then I know that there’s a link on the slide. In the example from the template, I created a circle that extended way past the borders of the slide.

If you look at the images I recommended and the images I used in the course, you’ll see that I didn’t use the images I recommended. That’s where my earlier tip to find an image pack really works. Images and video can be saved to the iPad easily using iTunes. The way I use it with PowerPoint is to frame the window around a slide. When I want to advance the slide, I just click the page-down button. By the way, I ran the audio output cable into my audio input to capture the slide’s audio. Save as Image.

However, if you go outside the box and edit the questions in slide view, you can make the quiz look like anything. I took some images I had on hand and wrote the script on the fly. In both examples above, we used the blank slide feature for most of the content and then added a multiple choice question to do the branching.

You don’t need to be a graphics artist, but you should know the difference between a bitmap and vector image because they play a role in the quality of what you see on the screen. The ones that get pixelated are bitmap images. When you scale the image, you’re scaling the pixel. When you scale the image, you’re scaling the pixel.

Had a great time last week in Indianapolis presenting to the Central Indiana ASTD chapter. Create in PowerPoint and then save the images as graphic files. But adding an image, like a wood panel in this demo, looks really nice. What would it look like to have the note slide out from the bottom? One is new and looks great.

If you do get a budget then you can stretch your money by purchasing the lower resolution images. You don’t need print-quality images for elearning courses. I usually get my images from Fotolio or iStockphoto but there are dozens of good stock image sites. I found a bunch of business card images online.

On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. Option 1: Create Master Slide Panels & Layouts. Use PowerPoint’s master slides to create the layouts. And then when you’re ready to go, select a layout for the slide and add your content. Two ways to work with the master layouts : Create the entire panel look on the slide master. Then copy and paste it as an image.

As a rule of thumb, once I get three or more slides with the same information, I try to put as much as I can on the master slide so it’s easier to edit and maintain. When you build your slides, try to determine what’s persistent and then add as much of the persistent content to the master slide.

It’s the breeding ground for a classic Frankencourse with too many fonts, the wrong colors and hokey images. In PowerPoint you can build as many master slides and layouts as you need. The easiest way to clean up your client’s slides is to start with the master slide. He worked on one slide at a time.

We can waste a lot of time looking for images and assets that are spread across multiple computers and network drives. And I can tag the images so they’re easier to search and locate later.

Just grab an image and save it in my ideas folder for later. Print Screen: captures your entire desktop and loads the image on the clipboard.
