WordPress: my first learning tool is this blog. And of course from comments, whether here or as often happens, on LinkedIn. OmniGraffle: a lot of thinking comes from reflection, both with the blog for thoughts, and through diagramming my understanding. Word: I do most of my writing besides blogging in Word.

Cultural Comment Shift

I’ve been blogging now for over a decade, and one thing has changed. When I started, people would comment right on the blog. When I started, people would comment right on the blog. These days, however, I get more comments on the LinkedIn announcement of the post rather than the post itself. The question is why.

And, as one of the people who blogs (e.g. I have a canned response that includes the line: I deliberately ignore what comes unsolicited, and instead am triggered by what comes through my network: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype, etc.

Facebook, is for me, the place I be me. I can see a B2C company using Facebook, but that’s not me, so it’s not a biz place. Oddly, I used to connect to almost anyone related to elearning on Facebook, but I realized that was a mistake. And, of course, this is my blog, for deeper reflections. Like this.

So, I get a lot of requests to link on LinkedIn, and I’m happy to, with a caveat. I use LinkedIn for business connections, so I’m linked to lots of people I don’t even know, but they’re in our field. Read this blog, instead. And I likely won’t link to you on Facebook. Try LinkedIn instead.
