There are three types of systems that slide under “learning platforms” The most common one supports PowerPoint, and videos and other content – and can track it, but they DO NOT support any version of SCORM, nor do they support AICC, PENS, Tin Can and so on. The twist? The same with authoring tools BTW. .

6) Microsoft PowerPoint Yes, theres lots of groaning about PowerPoint. I cant program to save my life, but I can create a course flow mockup using PowerPoint that gets my ideas across to those who can make it look really good. 10) Paper Call me old school, but I still like to take notes with pen and paper.

Ability to use PowerPoint. SCORM compliance and/or AICC – there are tools out there who support neither – but that is not the norm and there are a few tools out there who also support PENS. Course Authoring Tools for the masses. Common features include. Embed video – inc. Embed audio, images and Flash objects.

For the fans of PowerPoint, no need to worry, many vendors to select with various options, albeit many similar. PowerPoint still reigns – If you are a course purist, the idea that PPT should be seen as an authoring tool should make you grumble with disgust. . PowerPoint is presentation software. Output to HTML5.

Templates have been around for decades and often look like the ones you get with PowerPoint – which are lame. I remember pushing my pen around my paper in junior high creating a race game too. Nowadays I am seeing vendors offer 15, 17, 25 and even 30 templates. Each can be customized – to a degree.
