What about pesky SCORM? At one time, you could be “certified” with AICC and yes certified with SCORM, but why would you want to be? I’ve never heard someone say, “Sheesh, I need an LMS that is SCORM certified, or what your authoring tool is not AICC certified? I have mixed feelings on SCORM.

LTG, Macromedia, Adobe, and Smart ideas (for the most part) LTG acquiring Rustici (makers of the SCORM engine and Watershed LRS, among other items) is a great idea. EdCast is still a strong player in the LXP market, although, at the time, they were adding ubiquitous features to the LMS space. Probably the best con artist of all time.

They have always been on my radar and each year, I just see them as a solid player worthy of a ranking. Supports PENS, a standard I wish all vendors did – but very few do, and of course, SCORM. #37 The system supports every course standard including xAPI and PENS, but misses out on an LRS and content marketplace.

Increase in the number of rapid course authoring tools that offer assessment tool capabilities including randomization, quiz banks, numerous question options and can be part of the course to be uploaded as a SCORM package. Most tend to be proprietary, but I have seen a few that are SCORM/AICC and yes even PENS. Past Shows.

Ability to publish to.exe, web – this has always been around, but one vendor spins it with “Offline SCORM”, then you find out this means you can download the course in its SCORM wrapper and either have it as an.exe, use it on the web (without a LMS) or publish it to a LMS. First AT vendor to use PENS.

Right now, you have to upload the course as you would with your SCORM wrapper, where you self-upload or use the course within an online mobile platform from your authoring tool vendor. Just as you can with PENS authoring tools and the systems that support PENS (i.e with TinCan).

Yes, it offers the social learning authoring features – robust actually, which most vendors in this space does not, but it has added task management and PENS. #7 Works across multiple platforms, SCORM, learning object generator and more. . #8 Composica 4.0 - A winner in my book back in 2010 and still solid in 2011.

Course Player is not a Popup (thus requiring the learner to turn off a popup blocker). What I am finding is that AICC is nearly gone in the LEP space (as it is with LMSs too), so if I was you, I’d seek SCORM, SCORM 1.2, Nearly identical to what you will find my LMS RFP Template with the exception of this feature.

are from 2019, and knowing (well I do) some changes in the space with a few vendors in 2020, their will likely be a couple of key players that make an impact in 2020, because of their rollout (i.e. The only standards it does not work with is PENS and CMI-5). Sure there are over 100 vendors in this industry and probably 95% you have never heard of and whom have great products that can meet or beat the big players. CourseLab – ADL SCORM certified, no less. PENS was created in 2005 by AICC as a new interoperability standard. Name Recognition. In fact, a couple are lame.
