I had thought that this trend would be dying out, but it is amazing at the number of vendors who are entering the space and still focused on the desktop approach. Same thing.

When I look at e-learning courses/content today, I see a lot of good and, yes, a lot of wrong when providing effective online learning for frontline workers.  Content – Some assigned – like regulations and skills for the roles – but with flex so that someone can go back in without a specific due date. Think a mix.

Nice selection of vendors – in general. More vendors showing off their products then in the past – still a couple believe that a poster board will do the trick. Wi-Fi worked a lot better, but vendors and end users still had issues inside the expo hall. I heard this happen to two vendors.

I was planning on adding to my Findanlms.com (the web site part of it), a new section called vendor videos, and thus seeing the video aspect on the Instilled, I saw a perfect fit. Tie a PPT or a PDF to the video as it runs – matching section or clip by clip. Ability to only have video as content. Fast Forward.

Collaboration – How much longer are AT vendors going to push this out as “new”? Lots of Templates – No longer satisfied with ten, now many vendors are offering extensive list of templates. HTML5 output – Any vendor that doesn’t add HTMl5 output should be green with envy. Right now, not amazed.

Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. When you see many of these awards from organizations – the general mass of them (but not all of them) require the vendor/company to submit an application for whatever category or categories. It is easy to use and once you learn it, easy to push out content. A strong pro is that it can generate a table of contents and can be outputted into various LMSs. The two biggest negatives IMO, is that it just isn’t robust enough for e-learning developers and its whole focus on PPT into converting to a course doesn’t help.

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market.

Searchable content. Equation tool – I’ve seen more vendors add this thing – and unless you are in education I can’t see why you would use it. HTML5 output including a PPT converter to HTML5. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. .
