Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). What do you do?

I think Im somewhat of an anomaly in the field. Maybe Im not an instructional designer at all. Christy uses HTML, Dreamweaver, and sess Flash in her future. Rapid e-Learning tools, like Articulate , change the amount of actual technical skill an ID would need within such a group. I dont do any programming. Easy breezy.

Cousin, I do consider myself to be a gamer and while my interests used to fall into the "Grand Theft Auto" category, over the past couple of years I have moved more to PC games and since I have limited time with two kids.online flash games (some with an educational tilt). This hasnt gotten onto my radar before -- Im not sure if there are any state-funded online programs in Massachusetts. As I recall, she has two kids in high school who are taking online courses, and thats what got her interested in ID and e-learning. And its increasingly being funded as part of the U.S. public school system.

I like that its built in Flash. Im on the press page, so I think I should get at invite, dont you? I did send an email and got a response that Id be included in the "next round of invitations", which Im told will be in the next day or so. I like that Virtual Ubiquity is a Massachusetts company. Brent Schlenker of the eLearning Guild, commented on my post Memoirs of an Instructional Designer : Im one of the unfortunate ones with a actual honest to goodness Masters Degree in EdTech. Nothing I learned is actually applied today. I heard even David Merrill say that all MS students need to learn things like Flash, etc.

One of our main products is creating customized templates for our clients; "empowering non-programmers to build e-learning." Our tools still require the user to work in the Flash environment, but you really dont need to know Flash. If youre providing SMEs with the templates, Im not sure theyll be altering them.

Small packets (learning objects): repackaged to provide just-in-time. But.its not perfect.cant do Flash right now and javascript is limited.but its the best solution right now for getting content to people. The iPod for "passing" learning. Telecommunications, Healthcare were at the top, although there were others.

I did informal needs analysis on a daily basis, I wrote measurable objectives and built level 2 evaluations and authentic assessment items. I moved on to eLearning development and can say - I aint no techie.but most techies I know (those designing webpages, using Flash) dont really understand education. Im with you all.

This is from the numerous job posts (mostly medium size organizations) where they are asking for instructional designers who can assess the learning needs of the company and deliver the right training solutions in a blended format. There seems to be a mix between contract and full time positions, and Im not sure how to read into that.
