Many of you have to convert old Flash courses to HTML5. But adding text from the old course isn’t as easy because most Flash courses don’t allow selecting text to copy and paste. I’ve been playing around with ideas to get old Flash course content into a new HTML5 course. There are tens of thousands of old Flash-based e-learning courses where people no longer have the source files. Some of you use Google Docs instead of Microsoft Office. Once it’s ready, import the slides into Storyline.

At first glance, I have to say that e-Learning Studio provides more bang for the buck (this package comes with Captivate, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign). Too often instructional designers are stuck trying to make stock photography make sense in multiple situations.

In addition to purchasing the rights to use stock photos, we used a PowerPoint feature called “Design Ideas,” a tool that generates a series of formatting variations that you can apply to add interest to your slides. Budgets are tight and stock photos cost money. Because of this you end up using the same stock photos over and over again. The stock characters are treated like a team of improv performers. One possible solution is to shoot your own photos, which I covered in a previous blog post on creating your own stock images.

A few years back, one of our Flash developers was a little behind on a project to create a flash-based video player for one of our courses. Of course, since he was an experienced Flash programmer (who took pride in his programming chops) he hemmed and hawed about why rapid elearning sucked and how it was better if he did it on his own.
