My prediction was that in 2008 we'd see more online rapid e-learning authoring environments come onto the market and the reason I claimed that this prediction was on target was because of the announcements by established authoring tool vendors of two very promising new online products, Unison from Rapid Intake and RapideL-i.

I don't know where this appeared from or why but it seems that Microsoft has a rapid e-learning development tool. I'm not completely convinced because there's very little information about this product and it certainly isn't being marketed heavily.

So what are we seeing, at least in the UK: Lower budget, rapid e-learning development is flourishing. I'm using the few spare days I'm getting to develop new ideas and products with renewed enthusiasm. If you can turn round short pieces of content quickly and cheaply, you'll be in demand.

I was interested to have a play with FlockPod , a new social interaction tool from Harbinger Knowledge Products, the people who market Raptivity, the rapid e-learning tool. I was interested to see a product like this coming from a developer associated with conventional self-paced e-learning.

This has been addressed with the new version; the products are cosmetically enhanced and are much more easily combined. If you're keen to stretch Articulate beyond simple rapid development, you now have many more options, including the ability to create branching scenarios.

" Adobe do make low-cost software of course, for the consumer market, and only a chronic misery guts would complain at the functionality you gained for under $100 from a product such as Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements. First off, however Adobe try to position the ELS, this is not a rapid e-learning toolkit for occasional users.

All in all, I'd have to say that I had no trouble at all in using this product and never had to resort to the help files. This is what rapid development tools need to be like if teachers and trainers are going to do it for themselves. You can also export in a mobile-friendly format, though I didn't try that.
