Take the time to create your own images if your budget allows, or really search through stock photo sites to find the best image. Your image should be more than just generic clipart. To keep your course looking neat and professional, don’t mix and match clipart and photos. Don’t fall into that trap!

Chances are you too have taken an online course that was created with a generic PowerPoint template and bullet points. Seeing a course with Clipart from 1998 is distracting more than anything. Yes, they do make the job of creating diagrams and charts very simple BUT if you're slide deck is full of these they quickly lose their impact.

On the other end of the spectrum, we also didn’t want the unprofessional feel of using mismatched clipart. In my opinion, it matters less what style of image (realistic photos, clipart, etc) and more that the themes match throughout your course. For example, if you’re going to use clipart, that’s fine, but use the same style.
