Learning Styles and E-Learning

eLearning 24-7

This post is going to be somewhat different than in the past, specifically a result of the argument of the effectiveness of learning styles and if they even exist. No one mentioned e-learning which was part of the reference, specifically related to retention. Nope, in all the counter-arguments it was focusing on one item, learning styles, which initially was going to make up only a small part of the post. Quality e-learning is interactive and engaging.

Build Gr8 Micro-Learning Course

eLearning 24-7

For months I’ve been telling folks that if they want to learn how to build outstanding courses, they should surf deep into the search engines, locate the information and begin their learning experience. Unless you are an ID (instructional designer) or e-learning developer who was inspired by Gagne, you are not touching this with a five foot pole. Worse to it all, is the fact that it is completely worthless to any one who is building the following: Micro-learning course.

Are Instructional Designers Incapable of Micro-Learning Design? - Tip #124

Vignettes Learning

Why is it difficult for instructional designers to think and do micro-learning? I define micro-learning closely to that of Theo Hug's description : Micro-Learning is: Low effort Fast Easy Immediately applicable At the heart of this definition is the focus on what workers and learners actually do in very short, rapid and almost instantaneous basis while trying to fix, change and improve something. The above situation involves a Micro-Action.

How Micro-Learning Boosts “At the Moment Performance” - Tip #114

Vignettes Learning

We can say with confidence that the goal of leaders, managers, and learning professionals is to help workers achieve optimal "at the moment performance." Then as learning professionals we converge at the moment of performance. Specifically, in the past, our momentum in learning and training is “teaching something.” Teaching was based on rigid curriculums , testing , design , multimedia , presentations , retention , tracking , traditional learning styles and many more.

Scenario Based Learning, The Time is NOW

eLearning 24-7

Data backs up that folks either like online learning or do not like it. One of the key reasons folks in this new narrative of having higher ed go with skills based learning and not what they are doing today (and have since the 17th century) of theory and practical or just theory; is that in the world that exists now, businesses need individuals with skills in-hand ready to go. I mean, sorry, but learning a skill with synchronous based design just is a big fail. .
