Till some time ago, Flash was the software of choice for creating videos and animations. Rapid updates in Flash made it prone to crash. Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, withdrew support to Flash in its iOS platforms in 2012, given the numerous malfunctions that happened due to it.

Since it’s still January and people are blogging about trends or predictions for the new year, I thought I’d share some areas I believe Rapid eLearning Vendors should focus on in 2012 in order to stay ahead of the curve or worse, have a small startup eat their lunch. Another big mistake by Adobe I think in not executing quick enough.

This year I noticed a lot of sessions, blogs and tweets about storytelling, gamification and scenario based learning. HTML5 – mobile learning. Were mobile was the buzzword at DevLearn, it was replaced by HTML5 at LSCON. Last year at LSCON people where a bit in disbelieve (flash dead, no way!), Storytelling. Data mining.

While the demand for HTML5 courses is yet to catch up, the demand is growing stronger nevertheless. As per data published by Good Technology in their Good Technology Device Activations Report | Q1 2012 , the iPad 2 averaged 17.7 percent of their enterprise activations in the first quarter of 2012 in the US. into HTML5 format.

Over the past few years we had big leading topics in the world of learning; Curating, Mobile, Flash vs HTML5, TinCan. This is just a growth of a few percent in comparison to 2012. Everybody now understands that Flash is dead (no matter how unbelievable that seemed a year and a half ago). Curation is the same story.
