Thursday, February 21, 2008 My Client is Addicted: Audio in eLearning Cathy Moore had a post a few months ago ( Addicted to Audio? that inspired me to change my approach to using audio in eLearning. She suggested using audio sparingly. And yesterday I just added audio back to every page. A line here or there.

Select the right equipment: Choose a camera which provides a High Definition output, tripod to avoid shaky videos, a good microphone, appropriate lighting equipment, and more. Filming: If you want to incorporate a real video in the e-learning course, you can shoot it with your camera, or you can use recorded video clips.

It does have a built-in microphone and stereo speakers so it is audio ready. The iPad then, can be used for audio-based synchronous learning, collaboration, meetings and just-in-time support. In my mind, connectivity is part of the informal learning paradigm. The tablet does not come with a video camera.

In this context, how do you think the existing ‘design model’ of the e-learning authoring tools need to evolve to adapt to these changes? Joe: I’m a firm believer that both formal and informal learning are necessary. The formal learning, whether classroom-based or eLearning-based, helps to set a foundation for further learning.

Users can record and edit audio with Audacity and it runs on most operating systems, including Mac OS X and Windows. Key features include recording through a microphone or mixer, digitizing recordings from tapes, audio editing, importing and exporting audio files, effects and quality adjustments.

Plug in a microphone and check your audio settings in Elluminate. Check your connection before signing in the first time. How do I speak? Put on a headset (to avoid echoes.) Tell the moderator you want to talk in the chat. We encourage all participants to speak. What topics will be covered?
