Where games, sims and 3D worlds meet

Can I think of an example of a 3D world that's not a sim? For example, you might use Excel to simulate some aspect of economics, or Captivate to simulate a software task. Second Life ? Any other ideas, anyone? According to the Wikipedia , ' a simulation is an imitation of some real thing, state of affairs, or process'.
