During these trips I tend to have extra time at the airport, so usually play around with template ideas. They help me eat up some of the time waiting and I know that I’ll be able to give away the templates. The first is this would make a good elearning template. Since many people are used to clicking applications on their mobile device screens, create a template that looks like a mobile device screen. Someone came up with the idea to create templates for developing courses quickly – and no, it wasn’t someone from Adobe or Articulate. I looked at the templates and thought that anybody could create a course without knowing anything about ID or e-learning development, which wouldn’t be good. At the time, I hated it.

Another term for showing your work is “working out loud,” which has become a popular way to enhance creativity and build strong communities of practice. There’s even a dedicated week to celebrate working out loud as well as numerous blogs, books and online communities dedicated to the subject. Conclusion.

If you can step away from the “bullet point” mindset and all of the complaints, you’ll see that PowerPoint’s got a lot to offer those who build elearning courses. It doesn’t need to have that PowerPoint look. PowerPoint offers a pretty good selection of animations that let you mimic a lot of what you see in Flash. Blank screen.

Now that the elearning community is complete, I’ve been moving old demos and templates over to the site. All of the animations should remain intact if you’re using PowerPoint 2007+. Let’s be honest, many of the free PowerPoint templates that come with PowerPoint don’t really work for our courses.

A few days ago I came across this thread in the user community. He got a couple of responses and a demo PowerPoint file to review. Dave’s question (and the feedback he got) really speak to the value of the user community and why you need to be part of it if you aren’t already. Production tips come from people who produce.
