Surprises in E-Learning One of the biggest surprises, is that so many folks are unaware that e-learning was an umbrella term, as I noted in the History of the LMS post. Vendors use it to refer to online courses/content. On top of that, they misspell it – the term is e-learning. Shame on them.

CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT.

If you plan to track or have instructor led training, then this is relevant. Do you offer the ability to have people sign up for multiple seminars within the system? Can you tie it to your e-commerce (if you have it in your system), so when people register and their is a fee, they pay it? . Where do the seminars, etc.

The bottom line without getting technical or overly detailed, the solution is hosted on your vendor’s servers and not hosted on your internal servers. With a hosted solution, the vendor’s servers are able to tested to withstand scenarios like this. LMSs and their client list. Ask for references is a waste of time.

It was an exciting first day, with lots of vendors hitting the entire training spectrum. Ideal for sales training and point of sales. Here are my favorites: Numerous vendors were unhappy that they had to pay $700 a day for Wi-Fi, that didn’t work most of the time or was slow. Other vendors weren’t so lucky.

Vendors are assessing as well. The show is solely focused on e-learning and the vendors come from all over the world. The seminars continue to be a mixed bag – I mean seriously how many times can they have the same person presenting “virtual worlds” – using the exact same information?

We push the productivity increases, sales increases, safety issue decreases, happy employees and retention as proof that Training or L&D is successful and thus here is the proof with ROI. That’s right a profit center with training. They can integrate with any learning system out there. Nobody likes to lose stars. .
