Tony Karrer picked up some of the disconnects in a post entitled Social Learning Tools Should Not Be Separate from Enterprise 2.0. So, it’s perplexing to see why training yet again wants to separate itself from the enterprise and use their own set of social tools. I suggest LMS vendors catch the Cluetrain in time.

In my opinion here are the key items you will need: Will you want/need an authoring tool to build courses or are you going to have someone outside of the organization build them or just purchase courses via a 3rd party provider? Thus, if you plan to build your own courses, you will need an authoring tool (I recommend authoring tool route).
