How internal blogging with Confluence created a culture of knowledge sharing at APT from Dave Pacifico. Knowledge sharing has always been an important part of the workplace. Introducing the Social Intranet Index

E-Learning Provocateur

An intranet with an SII of 5 bolts on third-party social applications such as Yammer, Compendium and Confluence. There’s a lot of talk about social intranets these days. It even threatens to overtake the blogosphere’s current obsession with gamification. But what exactly is a social intranet…? Which one is correct? They all are. The user experience is seamless.

5 Learning Tech Trends to Watch in the Next 5 Years

ATD Learning Technologies

Often they are the culmination, confluence, and convergence of technological innovation, discoveries or rediscoveries of learning science and a reaction to changes within the larger culture in which society operates. Here is a list of five trends learning professionals should consider when mapping out strategies for the next five of years. 1: Microlearning. 2: Gamification. Bottom Line.

Internet Time Alliance Predictions for 2013

Jay Cross

A confluence of technology and improved connectivity, increasing pressures for rapid solutions and better customer service, and demands for higher performance, will force the hands of many HRDs and CLOs to refocus from models of ‘extended formal training’ to place technology-enabled, workplace-focused and leader-led development approaches at the core of their provision. Charles Jennings.

Managing to Outcomes in Nonprofit Sector

The Peformance Improvement

This intensified focus on outcomes and learning is a result of a confluence of factors in the growing and increasingly important U.S. This is the traditional time to reflect on trends observed during the past year. One major trend I have observed is performance management of nonprofit organizations. Actually, this is an accelerating trend that got its impetus from Peter Drucker decades ago.

#ATD2015 It’s a Wrap Part One: Sue Prenderville

Learning Rebels

Now, because of this confluence of events, I have different people contributing to the “It’s a Wrap” series. #ATD2015 – It’s a wrap! The ATD ICE (Association for Talent Development International Conference and Expo) Conference never fails to teach me something new. Wow, is that not the case. This, as one might predict, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. How cool is that?

All aboard the eLearning train: Onboarding with eFrontPro

eFront

This is something that’s dead easy to achieve in eFrontPro, but impossible to get working on a traditional CMS , employee portal system, or something like Confluence. My word processor underlines the word “onboarding” with those red squiggly lines. You might have also heard it as “ Employee Orientation “, which is quite more descriptive. But I digress.

How TalentLMS can help you with the onboarding process (part 1)

TalentLMS

This is again an area were an LMS, with its emphasis on learning as opposed to being a mere document store, has the upper hand compared to a traditional intranet portal system or something like Confluence. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. And it’s not just your prospective hires that have to make a good impression to your HR guys, but also the other way around.

Dear C-Suite: We Don't Do Training

CLO Magazine

Early in the talk, Aceto said, “I believe we are at the confluence of two revolutions — a social revolution and a technology revolution.” Many senior-level executives still equate learning with training events — to the detriment of the function — and learning leaders aren’t doing enough to change their minds. In 2012, Peter Aceto, president and CEO of ING Direct, a Canadian bank with nearly 1.8 million customers and more than $38 billion in assets, delivered a speech where he talked about being a social CEO. Two points emerged. So, how could they change their own views?

Social Learning Tools Should Not be Separate from Enterprise 2.0

Tony Karrer

This could be: SharePoint, Yammer, Confluence, etc. With the recent launch of InGenius by SkillSoft, I believe it’s time again to raise a pretty important question: Where do Social Learning Tools belong? Should they be coupled with your LMS or other learning-specific tools? Or should they be separated? Or ???? tools. John Ambrose in Social Learning Will Fill Enterprise 2.0’s Web 2.0

Learning and Performance Improvement in 2013

The Peformance Improvement

The Internet Time Alliance principals have made predictions for 2013. Clark Quinn predicts that “…we’ll see more examples of the notion of a ‘performance ecosystem’ of resources aligned around individual needs and responsibilities, instead of organized around the providing silos.” Increasingly, workers will learn their jobs by doing their jobs.”

Web 2.0 Applications in Learning

Tony Karrer

Last week I presented a session at ASTD TechKnowledge entitled eLearning 2.0 - Applications and Implications. It could just as easily have been called Web 2.0 Applications in Learning. It was designed to be a small to medium size group discussion, but because the room was large it was very challenging to do that successfully. I discussed a bit of these issues in First Thoughts After ASTD Sessions. I'm writing this post for both attendees of the session to have some notes and for people who were not at the session to hopefully get value from the discussion that happened there. as I expected.

Enterprise Wiki as Intranet - a success story

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

They selected Confluence by Atlassian. This is a great find! Nathan at e-gineer blog summarized a beautiful case study. I have many friends and colleagues in organizations struggling to get wikis into the enterprise. They will surely gain insight from this case study. Here's some good stuff: "In 2006, Janssen-Cilag completely replaced our simple, static HTML intranet with a Wiki solution. Over the 16 months since launch, it has dramatically transformed our internal communication and continues to increase in both visits and content contributions each month."

The Ten Commandments of eLearning

If you target the goal at the confluence of these streams, there is better chance that what you set out to teach is learnt, retained longer and improves performance and problem-solving. We discovered ‘The Ten Commandments of eLearning” as elucidated by Cath Ellis and Clive Shepherd. We’ve decided to follow in the same vein and list our commandments. First off, we thought ten is too many to remember, so we cut it down to five. There are some similarities to Cath and Clive’s commandments but that is to be expected given the nature of this post. Yes, the smaller you can make it the better.

Help wanted - virtualize me!

Learning Rocks

Due to an unfortunate confluence of events it looks like I won't be able to make it to WOLCE this year. Fact is, I wasn't intending to go. I was a little disappointed by it last year, and now that Learning Technologies has Learning & Skills to run alongside, I really couldn't see the point in going. Not to say that it is bad, only for my needs right now, WOLCE isn't really right. However, at my company we've been experiencing a spot of trouble with our software systems and it's quite likely that WOLCE is the sort of place that someone with a solution might show up. Or arrange it.

2009 - the year of consumer e-learning

Learning Rocks

Precisely because there is this confluence of themes that others have been supporting and engaging with - mobile technology, cloud computing, ever easier to use devices, openness to gaming - coinciding with the ongoing spate of "unpredictable moments of opportunity" that is the net result of global turmoil that will be the steady background hum for 2009. We should all be aware by now that making any attempt to predict the future is a fruitless task, if our goals are to accurately anticipate what's going to happen. Part of the problem is the invisibility of the industry to outsiders.

Because they offer integration with products that may already be behind the firewall - Confluence and XWiki. So I was looking at XMind - mind mapping app - and it looks good and all but especially considering the air-tight lockdown on desktops across the federal government, I really can't even look twice at something that requires an install.
