Web site stinks = product stinks. What has always amazed me are number of e-learning vendor web sites whose design looks like it came from 1995 when Netscape ruled the land. I mean look at any other industry, any industry and check out their vendors’ web sites. The site stinks – the product stinks.

Secondly, there seems to be a trend that if a consumer purchases only one 3rd party content provider (if available in that vendor’s marketplace) – it is either LinkedIn Learning, Open Sesame, Udemy or Skillsoft. .

Maybe you purchased it via Open Sesame, or Skillsoft. Skillsoft – The behemoth of the courses/content space. A key factor is that Skillsoft has acquired many course providers in the past and with that have good and bad mixed together. Skillsoft I find is very flexible in this regard (as a whole). I identify the Big Dogs as SumTotal by Skillsoft (yes, that is the actual name), Cornerstone OnDemand, Saba, SucessFactors and Oracle Taleo (although, I ask myself who is using this and if you still are why?). SumTotal by Skillsoft – the 2016 re-haul is a huge plus.

No, but then again, this is an issue with many course providers including Lynda.com and Skillsoft. . As noted earlier, I see this with a lot course providers (and aggregators) including Lynda.com, Skillsoft and even the MOOC freebies via Coursera (for example). Bottom Line. WBT was created because ILT – face to face on-site, told you nothing. If a person couldn’t remember, they paid another fee to attend another on-site session, if it was available. And thus, CBT wouldn’t work, because nobody could have a 640mb course with a 52K modem (actually top speed was in the 40kbs range). .

The unknown of course is when a person goes to a web site to read an article, whether the system can tell if they actually read the whole article or skimmed it, or was on the site for like five seconds. Nor can you upload content from a 3rd party provider – example Skillsoft. Big Name Client Effect - A term I use when I see vendors list clients that also appear on other vendor sites. So you have to use their authoring tool to create courses. You cannot use a 3rd party authoring tool. Built-in authoring tool as the core.
