Every employee has his or her own roles, responsibilities and work style, but he or she seldom works in isolation, even if working individually. Social connectedness is essentially a measure of how people interact and to what end. Such networks are characterized by influence, not authority. Today, social media connect people around the world.

So too are our personal learning networks. Such systems are woefully inadequate to meet our personal knowledge needs in this fast-paced network era. What works for me won’t necessarily work for someone else. Therefore it’s important for each of us to develop our own processes, try different approaches, and adapt them as needed to make them a part of our daily work. They need to work for us, not someone else.
