At a trade show, DevLearn, there was a vendor who had a phrase, with some words that followed suit. I will still remember the vendor whose name was Shift! (it it was or still is an authoring tool). Every time, I saw the word, I saw something else. Seriously, nobody else realized this? They didn’t realize it, until I pointed it out.

Nor at DevLearn. More in, then less out. If they were dated wonky systems that can’t do as much as an LXP, they wouldn’t be rolling in. I didn’t see one new 100% LXP at LTUK. The dominant player in each of those shows was an LMS, followed by a learning platform.

Due a recent rib injury, I will not be at DevLearn this year. A round-up of the past two months regarding e-learning, LMSs, authoring tools and more. Where is the heavy ILT angle at World of Learning or LTUK or LTFrance or Learning Solutions or DevLearn or at the many other shows around the world? I hardly see any products for ILT, and when they are it is extremely small. Why is that, if ILT is in a renaissance period? .

There were a couple of “microlearning” platforms at DevLearn, and one guy was incredulous when I told him that this wasn’t a new concept. Oh, and here is the kicker – EVERY LEARNING SYSTEM can do micro-learning. Every one of them. Even video learning platforms. Don’t buy into this spin that it is new, or unique.

E-Learning Guild - I am not sure if they are really an association, I never saw them as that, but they do many things right that the aforementioned does not.

Right now it is Storyline, but I won’t make it official until after I attend DevLearn and see some of the new shiny tools. . Rather then offering avatars whose mouths matched your voice (which another vendor Sh!FT FT offers), they seem to be in cloud mode (no pun intended). Newcomer of the Year. Bottom Line.

DevLearn – mixed bag. A few vendors told me that they barely got any foot traffic and one even told me that ELEC folks had the gall to come to them, apologize for the show and then ask them if they wanted to renew – for a higher price. Some vendors had solid leads, others found that it was a waste of time.

If you plan on having your administrator or administrators create courses, send them to DevLearn. For folks in the U.S., they are more than that, same with the UK and some parts of Europe. For U.S. – ATD is a must. If not, no need to attend. I’m mixed on the other eLearning guild shows. For the UK, LTUK is a must.

A vendor did this at DevLearn, and then all those other items, like similar which are never similar appeared too. I’ve seen senior executives do this, even the founder of the company who is the only person in the booth. The moment you hit that floor you are “on.” ” Never forget that.
