In the fourth quarter of 2009, total registered accounts in the virtual worlds sector reached 803 million. He let everyone know on his blog posting The i-web Singularity Redux that at Virtual Worlds III this week the announcement was made that Second Life has worked out a deal with IBM to move Second Life behind the IBM corporate firewall.

In last night’s #lrnchat , the topic was virtual worlds (VWs). This was largely because several of the organizers had recently attended one or another of the SRI/ADL meetings on the topic, but also because one of the organizers ( @KoreenOlbrish ) is majorly active in the business of virtual worlds for learning through her company Tandem Learning. The first question to be addressed was whether virtual worlds had been over or underhyped.
