We’re software nerds, change agents, standards developers, experience designers, game developers, and problem solvers. Sedona is a magic spot in the high desert, about two hours north of Phoenix. Improv. | GEORGE SIEMENS JUNE 16, 2012 The future of higher education and other imponderables We will be running an open online course from Oct 8-Nov 16 , 2012, addressing some of the concepts in this post. I’m also presenting on the topic of systemic change at the 2012 Campus Technology conference in Boston in July, so change in education is front of mind these days (actually, the first two years of my phd were on higher education change before I shifted my focus). | ELEARNING 24-7 NOVEMBER 5, 2012 Dispelling the LMS Myth Modules in 2012. you would be surprised at the number of people who believe it was created at an Arizona movie stage). Last week I came across an interesting obit: A Mr. L.M. System had passed away. He was recognized throughout the e-learning and learning communities. Apparently he was loved by millions and hated by thousands. He tended to wear different colors and apparently wore logos – I surmise they were on t-shirts. He was online quite a bit and provided a wealth of information to his clients. LMS as his friends called him was known for being a workaholic. Modular. | | | | | | | | | -
JAY CROSS | SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 2012 The Back Channel and the Rule of Threes This post collects the resources shared via the backchannel of the Up To All Of Us event, held February 24-27 in Sedona, Arizona. It’s a law of nature. There are always three things. Trust me on this. Think of an event — a workshop, a class, a meeting, or a presentation. Something always comes before and there’s always an aftermath. All too often, we neglect the Beginning and Next phases. This limits our thinking to the event and blinds us to the larger process. Here are the three phases of the Up To All of Us workshop I attended in Sedona last week: Beginning. Middle. MORE >> -
AARON SILVERS | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2012 What’s Up to All of Us? It’s why next week I’m taking a week+ off from work and organizing a unconference of my own in Sedona, Arizona. Several months ago, I participated in a unconference in Santa Clara, California, called Overlap. did it on my time as an investment in my growth. came away with a renewed sense of purpose and energy that has improved my professional life. It also sparked a change in my awareness of what I do, professionally, and it inspired me to take different risks. Of late, what I’ve done more and more of is experience design. couldn’t be more elated about the event. MORE >> -
GEORGE SIEMENS | THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 2012 Instructure: we know. we learn. met with a crew from Instructure when I was at Arizona State University for a conference. I’ve been using Instructure for several weeks for a course that I’m teaching with Tecnológico de Monterrey on networked and connected learning. I’ve used a large number of learning management systems over the last several years, and Instructure presents one of the more impressive educator and end-user experiences. It took me about two hours to setup and organize my first course in the platform. can see why: setting up a course, adding content, assessment, etc. MORE >> -
MARCIA CONNER | THURSDAY, JANUARY 26, 2012 Learn by Doing: Get Faster Every Lap Jack Ring lives in Arizona and has 50+ years of experience as an intrapreneur and executive in a variety of businesses. Few people ever recall who finished in second place. This is most evident in automobile racing, whether it is the international Formula 1, the annual “greatest spectacle in racing” at Indianapolis, the thundering NASCAR circuit, or the more than 250,000 dirt tracks around the United States. Automobile racing draws more spectators than any other sport. It’s not because of the danger, although the prospect of a crash certainly holds the crowd’s interest. MORE >> -
JAY CROSS | SUNDAY, JULY 15, 2012 Stoos Stampede Phoenix Chandler, Arizona. Fourteen of us spent Friday evening and all day Saturday exploring how to create better organizations.
