eLearning vendors (those that design custom courseware) are often handed the course to be built. So the vendor scopes it out and does the design work, the storyboarding, the development work. But the bottom line is, the vendor needs to butter their bread and produce what the client has asked for. Evaluation complete.

Say, if youre purchasing a course library from SkillSoft or some other vendor: If a client has their own LMS, do they purchase the courses outright and host them on their own servers? If so, is the vendor able to track usage or do they just sell the content for a flat fee based on LMS seat size? Can I, um, have your attention, please?

Im going to quote heavily from the article here, inserting my own thoughts along the way. Why should companies go with e-Learning vendors when rapid e-Learning tools are available? Have the e-Learning vendor create the first few custom programs. Granted, Im not commenting on the design nor the quality of the material.

With Moodle, it’s currently a vendor lock-in proposition. The only saving grace is that the vendor just happens to be an open source project. You can read the comments yourself but here is one that caught my attention: There are people that use the fact that moodle is “scorm compliant&# as one of its many virtues.
