I read several newspapers and blogs, all of which have commenting or community features. Slashdot : I skim the RSS feed, but I don’t have an account and have never commented. Should we exclude anyone from reading the RSS feeds of our blogs if they aren’t commenting, bookmarking, +1-ing, etc?

How often do you comment on other blogs during a typical week? Do you track your blog comments? With tracking and an RSS feed, I can keep track of it all much more easily. Do you tend to comment at the same blogs or do you try to comment on at least one new blog per week? The first task is a commenting self-audit.

It would let you know about recent activity though, and for a newer blog it wouldn’t matter. links, tweets, Diggs, and Google trackbacks.

The Bamboo Project Blog: Using Del.icio.us You could build on this idea by posting the RSS feed from your custom tag to another site where you could control the look and feel. Mostly higher ed.

Blogs increased 20.7%. Good question in the chat from Cathy Moore: Are blogs being used top-down or created by learners? Brent says yes–the RSS feed that lets people opt in and listen on their own time makes it 2.0. Podcasts increased 22.5% (not necessarily a 2.0 Communities of Practice increased 12.3%. Wikis up 7.7%.

When I liveblogged the TCC 2008 conference , I always had the Elluminate presentation up on my primary screen (my desktop computer) and my blog on my laptop. Reading RSS feeds is my “transition&# activity; when I finish one task and am mentally switching gears to do something else, I spend a few minutes reading. Transitions.
