This week let’s look at the Request for Proposal (RFP). The RFI and RFP are the two primary tools you can use to select which vendor from a group is the best one to meet your needs. RFPs are formal documents written to vendors that specifically list what you want and help the vendor provide a specific, binding proposal.

I can’t forget the joke of micro-learning platforms, ignoring that micro-learning has been around since 2000, every type of learning system can do this because it is based solely on how you or whomever creates the courses/content. A vendor says “elearning course” ignoring that it really has a hyphen between the e and the l.

This only adds to the confusion of people wanting an LXP, which is referred to as a learning experience platform. .

Must have a course catalog, batch upload of users. Group A sees only X courses, Group Y sees only V courses, and they many not be the same courses. Need courses that be set in sequential order, so Joe has to complete course Y by X date and so on. Can you sell products as well or only courses?

These two vendors are EdCast and Degreed. Getting back to being unaware, I find the same issue with a few vendors in the learning system space who are really LXPs, but have no idea. It reminded me of the vendors in the space who scream they are not an LMS, even though they hit all the standards of an LMS. . In my opinion, no.

I’d actually say great with the Chrome Extension of Percipio, where you can search by highlighting any word or words on the internet back into the platform. Content also includes courses, videos, practice labs and links to your own content. Because, between these two, the winner by far is Percipio. Thankfully, they will.

Nowadays though, vendors have changed the message to mean e-learning as in e-learning courses and not an umbrella term. . Others, a “well I did the research, but I am having second thoughts,” Perhaps it is an intensive search, analysis, comparison, contacting, repetitive follow-up, and then, just when you think it is done, someone else isn’t sure, so the whole thing comes crashing down, and the process goes into limbo.
