Now, maybe Im just jaded and want to get to an approved storyboard. Maybe its the fact that Im recovering from pneumonia and just dont have the energy to fight the fight. I just redid a demo for the exact same issue. I designed it that way because I was told thats the way to appeal to different "learning styles."

I have never taken a course in adult learning theory. My current business card says Im a "Manager of Instructional Design". I have learned everything I "know" about instructional design and teaching by doing. She taught me the basics of instructional design, although looking back it wasnt much: Instruct, Demo, Practice, Assess.

This gender gap is striking to me, too, in terms of who is talking about games/immersive learning and instructional design. Im right with you. Im a female instructional designer in my late 30s. Sort of Myst-like puzzles, although Im definitely out of practice from that way of thinking. Mostly men. Whos got the time?

Not surprisingly, a lot more activity was seen if test subjects were watching to learn (anticipating that they were to do the task later) vs. watching only. The very active area here was the cerebellum, which apparently has a big role in "motor learning and expertise". Games for Girls.

Weve added thoughtful, process-based questions in the middle of the software demo to break things up. The next project Im about to take on is going to be more of a just-in-time performance support tool. Short demos (some with practice) linked right from the software itself. I have seen software demos that use scenarios.

Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. As far as the gender divide in video games, Im not sure I believe it. But mostly not. Its not safe."
