Stephen Downes picked up my post on Facebook As a Learning Platform. He commented: To be clear, I do not think that Facebook itself is really a learning environment. Sometimes it is very effective to add people pictures to your online courses. Share this on Facebook. Share this on del.icio.us. They could be used as a guide/narrator that directs the learner through the course or you could use people to create scenarios and graphics. A couple are also published with a custom Articulate Skin.).

And if so, how much realism will be most effective? Surprisingly, a lot of research points to the opposite; realistic graphics are frequently not as effective as those with reduced realism. Low-fidelity graphics can be more effective for learning when you need to: Provide an explanation to people with limited knowledge of the content.

Social Media included Twitter, Screenr videos, and Diigo social bookmarks. I learned that the ongoing support implemented on our Intranet pages, Screenr videos, Diigo social bookmarks, and job aids were highly valued by staff and seen as very practical and accessible resources that are continually being used.

Social Bookmarking and Wikis and Blogs are a form of social networking I never said this, but several people pointed it out in the chat. The same thing can be true with social bookmarking, wikis, flickr, etc. Using social bookmarking or meme tracking works okay. My wife thinks that's "hilarious."

As most instructional designers know, graphics used effectively can greatly increase the efficacy of a learning event. However, Connie took it a step further and introduced us to how are brains are wired for graphics and shared great advice and examples of uber-effective use of graphics.
