Right now, Im proofing a storyboard thats full of endless text bullets and boring software demos with no interactivity -- and theres really nothing I can do about it.

This August 21 article posted by Sharon Gaudin in Information Week reports that Half of Companies are Blocking Facebook: "Employers are increasingly blocking access to Facebook because theyre concerned about the time wasted and the information leaked when workers use social networks on company time." This manufacturing process training course was originally delivered as a four hour plus death-by-PowerPoint classroom session (if you could see the original PPT source content, youd begin glazing over within a few slides). SMEs felt a bit threatened by this fun take on their sacred content. Im glad youre on board with my ducks!

For me this is is one of the key failings of traditional elearning content: fitting your learning need to pre-existing templates, whether thats SME built rapid content or something produced by an elearning provider. For me, instructional design is about designing "engaging and effective" asynchronous learning experiences (web-based training programs). Ive also had a few gigs as a classroom teacher, which has mostly been about implementing content and curriculum that was designed by others. My learning has all been completely informal.
