Free learning can come from groups like Work Literacy that provided a large online learning experience for free, or from LearnTrends that produces amazing content like LearnTrends 2009 for free. Free Learning may not be as high a quality – although I would claim that LearnTrends and WorkLiteracy filled niches.

We’ve just announced the innovation awards associated with LearnTrends 2009. Learnosity Learnosity provide a set of tools to help in the assessment, teaching and learning of spoken language skills. The Learnosity system is designed for speaking, listening and learning via a mobile phone. A tutoring team assists students via e-mail.

That certainly goes along with what we’ve done with LearnTrends and what’s going on with social learning. There was concern around skills that take time to develop. My belief is that we are going to see lots of virtual communities created as it makes sense to aggregate outside of a local geography for common interests.

The theme of LearnTrends 2009 is a term I call Convergence. Learning and Development is likely not producing much content that will be useful to their day-to-day work except by building core skills. It's really about the fact that learning and development leaders have an opportunity to embrace 2.0.

Some training will still be preferred face to face such as when team building or in-person soft skills are important, but 2009 will be the year when we realize that we should be justifying any in-person training. We even made the Big Question one month: New Presenter and Learner Skills and Methods. LearnTrends had a bunch of these.

Using SharePoint for Event Planning & Organizing Just like we used a Wiki one year and Ning another to support the online conference LearnTrends , SharePoint can be used to manage all types of events, especially internal events. Some with Subject Matter experts. were similar. A lot of what eLearning 2.0 They should be at the core.
