They do not get access to the code, mind you, just the algorithm provides the flexibility, otherwise, the vendor is telling you, they know more about your training or L&D then you – I really dislike that philosophy. Since my Top 10 list of LMS vendors has been posted online, I have received quite a bit of e-mail wondering why the biggest names: Cornerstone On Demand, Saba, SumTotal and SuccessFactors are not on the list. From a general product standpoint, go take a look at Amazon.com or Consumer Reports. A LMS should first be a LMS.

If you want to buy a learning system that is noted as “Enterprise” and you are providing your learning – i.e. training for your customers, you can still buy the system. SumTotal (Learning Management) – $$$ to $$$$. Actually, SumTotal’s is far worse. No one, will say no (or should). Mobile is good.

A demo was requested, if I had not seen the system recently, but due to COVID if this was an issue, I had a one on one talk with the vendor, to extract additional information which provided enough, on top of what I already knew, to make an informed decision. . SumTotal for example did a nice revamp, but their reporting is super outdated.

SumTotal Learning Management – They have come a long way. I readily admit for the longest time I was not a fan of SumTotal, but that was then, this is now. The front end UI is strong, the admin side is where there needs some fixes, especially the reporting – Jasper should be retired. They are on F indAnLMS.com.

But most are not great looking by any stretch, which is why you should go with a commercial Moodle provider to make the UI and UX better. On systems going down in K-12, Schoology wasn’t the only one, there were reports of Blackboard crashing and even Instructure. Best analytics and metrics/reporting in the industry.

This is very useful, both in reporting and in causing other things to happen in a learning ecosystem. The second area to address is reporting. Vendors are trying to fill the gap of reporting on data as best as they can, but we see a large space between what most LMSs/LXPs do and what we can do.

It’s much easier than say going directly to the content provider, buying it from them and then having them talk to your LMS vendor to put it in for you (which, honestly you should do, because it will save you money).
