Often I have two small kids in tow or Im trying to check ten things off a list during my lunch hour. A good aggregator (like Stephen Downes) will get me the info I need so Im not missing the really juicy stuff. I may even just skip it completely, thinking Ill come back to it later when my brain is less full. Im too distracted.

Im definitely hooked -- you might say, "immersed" or "addicted". So last night I stayed up until 1:00 playing Zelda: The Twilight Princess. I had to force myself to stop. The graphics are amazing. The controller is so fluid and much more intuitive than the Nintendo 64. I just played in the first village last night. #2 We got Wii!

Nevertheless, their voices are deeply etched in my brain, and I could have picked any of them out of a lineup if we were going by voice and not visual. If I notice Im losing someones attention in class, Ill instantly make direct eye-contact, maybe raise an eyebrow, and start talking directly to that student, and most of the time.

In the session I took with him at the eLearning Guild event, he talked about multiple representations as a way to forge stronger pathways of memory in the brain. If youre providing SMEs with the templates, Im not sure theyll be altering them. Mixed visual-auditory stimuli have an underadditive effect, so that if you have to do both at the same time, total brain activation goes down. So its interesting to think about this underadditive effect where "total brain activation goes down" if presenting in both visual and auditory at the same time. Im way out of practice.
