3 The system costs more than what they quoted me. They fail to mention that it will cost you X dollars per API and it will take six weeks to add one. I remember seeing some pricing online by a LMS vendor and then when I got the contract it had different pricing on it. Skinning for additional portals/tenants, etc.

Extended Enterprise – aka Multi-Tenet, Portals-Sub Portals. If you want an EE, you will want e-commerce. Especially if it costs extra. I only know of a few vendors that include a TM/PM feature at no additional cost, it just comes with the system – and their systems are what I consider a full LMS.

Now, why doesn’t a vendor mention this information to a potential client, at least the first point – I can understand holding off on the second point, for selling purposes. Moodle can be a worthwhile system but it requires heavy customization, dedicated IT person who has Moodle skill sets (ideal), in-house support (because when end users can’t figure it out – they will come calling YOU) and costs that many folks fail to realize. Why the extra fee for a vendor to integrate it into their system. They will argue it is time and labor costs for the person doing it. When you purchase off the shelf 3rd party courses, either via Skillsoft, Rosetta Stone or whomever and need to integrate that into their system, they do it, and at no cost. Interesting, no?
