Our approach to formal learning needs to more naturally mimic this approach, having us attempting to do something, and resourcing around it with information and facilitation. They may need discussion forums, blogs, wikis, and IM.

I can see how theorists might argue that reading text aloud to the learner addresses multiple "learning styles," but the real-world experience is one of frustration: you want to read ahead but you cant because the narrator reads more slowly than you do. And by asking this, Im not suggesting that design isnt important, for it is - its seen by some as part of the pedagogy.
