Recently I was asked to estimate how long it would take to re-build five e-Learning courses created with another software program in Captivate. With this project, we want to accomplish several things: Terminate our year-to-year contract with that other tool. Publish them in HTML5 rather than swf output. That is the task.

If there’s a beta program or new software application, I’m quick to sign up and play around with it. However, if I have a larger project, then I like to break my production up into chunks and keep my audio separate. For rapid elearning converting to the SWF and FLV Flash formats are important and Format Factory supports this.

There’s no programming language. As of this writing, Zebra only outputs to SWF. I’m a big proponent of HTML5’s suitability for elearning, and one of Artisan’s special areas of focus is on creating usable 508-compliant courses, so we are definitely hoping for an update that addresses the SWF-only output soon.

As a result of this issue, people have to insert the SWF as a web object. Articulate. Yes, it is coming. Sad to say, this is a lemming industry.

So instead of creating a single Captivate project containing all the content, it will be broken down into smaller modules. Start by creating a Captivate project on ‘alphabets’ and publish it as a PDF. Just check the box which says 'export PDF' and publish the project. This option is available in the Publish dialog.
