How much is an authoring tool worth?

Empower , a rapid Flash interaction builder, for the princely sum of $99, got me wondering if I have any idea any more of what an authoring tool is worth. Time was an authoring tool cost at very least $1K and often much more. When I buy a toy I have modest expectations about utility and don't expect any support.

Nominee #2 Stop saying “authoring tool.” I mean there are authoring tools who are still desktop only. Do you think they care? There you go.

The Average Joe imperative

While I can’t hack into NASA, I’m confident enough to give any software a go and not be put off by shiny new toys. I am seeing Average Joes everywhere who wouldn’t touch other authoring tools with a 10-foot pole expressing an uncharacteristic willingness to give this one a go. Until I finally gave up for good.
