Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). What do you do?

A study is cited in which researchers looked at brain activity while subjects learned how to build a structure with Tinker Toys. Not surprisingly, a lot more activity was seen if test subjects were watching to learn (anticipating that they were to do the task later) vs. watching only. Weed out the fluff. Take the Survey!

Im not just thinking about the gadgets and the gizmos that you use or the instructional design "method" behind the process (e.g., ADDIE), but rather the teaching tools themselves. The Connected Worker 21st century knowledge worker/learner "Im only as good as my network." Kids use tools like MySpace, FB etc. use these tools for social -- they dont have these in their learning toolkit. Shift is not to do what youre supposed to do. Do it when you want. This will have real implications for instruction.

Mixed visual-auditory stimuli have an underadditive effect, so that if you have to do both at the same time, total brain activation goes down. So its interesting to think about this underadditive effect where "total brain activation goes down" if presenting in both visual and auditory at the same time. Im way out of practice.
