Equally of interest, are the increase in open source systems that offer for a fee, hosting on their own servers, rather than on yours. While there are vendors who offer online/offline synch with their LMSs, they are doing it via a universal app, which is geared towards the screen size of smartphone, rather than a tablet.

Web sites yes. Even one time open source systems are starting to offer hosting for an additional cost. For vendors who offer unlimited, I am sure it is doing well for you and is a big positive for you. It is a way to counter free open source systems. Security is quite strong for SaaS systems.
