I was able to create some really great eLearning with Windows but it was NOT fun. We could learn Hypercard or we could learn Toolbook. I had chosen the corporate track so I selected Toolbook. But luckily the other student that knew toolbook knew it REALLY well and I learned a lot. It was an eMac. Again, a huge let down.

As the evolution of e-learning continues, the rapid content authoring tools (RCAT) market follows suit. While the assumption would be that all the products are alike, or that fee based tools are superior to their free counterparts, nothing could be farther than the truth. Once you did though, you could do quite a lot with the tool.

I will be dating myself here, but so much of the orthodoxy in the instructional design process was forged back in the late 80’s and early 90’s when the only Computer-Based Training (CBT) tools were Toolbook for the PC, and Hypercard for the Mac. Due to the technical constraints it became a law that “pages must not scroll”.
