Personally, I dont like to hide things from learners and play guessing games, so I am an advocate of letting the learner know, up front, what they will be expected to do at the conclusion of the course, lesson, or whatever. Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit.
