Like many of you, I was surprised to find out that Skillsoft is in the process of acquiring SumTotal. Here according to the documentation listed on the Skillsoft web site, is what they see as the real value of the SumTotal acquisition (text listed is actual wording on their document): Skillsoft and SumTotal provide highly complementary HR solutions. Combination of Skillsoft and SumTotal offers comprehensive, content-rich HR solutions. Getting back to Skillsoft and SumTotal. have no problem with Skillsoft buying SumTotal. They are not. B2B training?

Since my Top 10 list of LMS vendors has been posted online, I have received quite a bit of e-mail wondering why the biggest names: Cornerstone On Demand, Saba, SumTotal and SuccessFactors are not on the list. A LMS should first be a LMS. When I talk about a LMS, I am saying specifically a learning management system and the vendors themselves should see their own product first and foremost as a LMS, not as a TM/PM or whatever.  There is a wide assumption that if a product sells a lot it means that it is better than anyone else.  SumTotal. 2012 Lists. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). Otherwise, you get bleech, IMO.   If you are seeking TM as your focus and you want one of the big dogs – I found Plateau’s system to offer appropriate functionality for it, but found some real concern in other areas (see my product review).  – especially if your product is SAAS. Between the two systems, I am leaning more towards LMS365, just because I honestly believe it has a future in the SharePoint space much more so than their other product (nothing against it, but…).   I mean ELF SharePoint LMS isn’t going anywhere,  but again, this is just my opinion, LMS365 is a new take with the integration of Office 365. Oh, strategic learning, extended enterprise and compliance are all included in their LMS.  I’m not sure why they “appear” as separate products on their site. SumTotal by Skillsoft. Final Post Analysis of #HRTechConf 2015

SumTotal by Skillsoft. According to a source, SumTotal is coming out with a new revamped version – including UI in 2016.  My source tells me that this new version is in production as we speak.  I have reached out to SumTotal about seeing this latest version in the next few weeks.  I’ll keep you posted. For folks who use their product, I was told by a salesperson that xAPI is not on their radar, nor is any type of on/off synch mobile app.  . Considering that the rest of their product was live on various computers, I’m a little confused.

Ask someone to name a few LMSs or at least one, and I suspect it will be Cornerstone OnDemand or SumTotal.   To me, these are brand names.  If they are in education/higher education it is likely to be Blackboard or Instructure, which some folks refer to as Canvas. People either love or hate Cornerstone OnDemand, SumTotal Learn, Saba, SuccessFactors. And if yes, what verticals? UI/UX.

identify the Big Dogs as SumTotal by Skillsoft (yes, that is the actual name),  Cornerstone OnDemand, Saba, SucessFactors and Oracle Taleo (although, I ask myself who is using this and if you still are why?). SumTotal by Skillsoft – the 2016 re-haul is a huge plus.  SumTotal by Skillsoft. Oracle Taleo – Seriously, either overhaul this thing or dump it and torch it.   I feel bad for the folks who were learn.com, then thought Taleo would improve it, then Oracle.   And BTW, nearly every LMS can interface with Oracle products. Not everyone gets in. Not in.
