If I notice Im losing someones attention in class, Ill instantly make direct eye-contact, maybe raise an eyebrow, and start talking directly to that student, and most of the time. Im the same when teaching face-to-face -- big user of the laugh to create connection. There are many VoIP tools that allow sending video as well as audio.

In video games, players often have the option of going to a screen to see the objectives, goals, and tasks for a ceratin level and that doesnt diminish the experience of the game, just like a link to objectives wouldnt diminish the learning. Im not sure I suggested writing WIIFM learning objectives, but they probably have their uses.

Im not sure if the SME was reading a script, reading the notes, or just speaking from the heart. This past year we started doing more video interviews with SMEs using Flip cameras over the XL1. What we lose in video quality we gain in authenticity. I also like to use SMEs for video. So thats one version.
