Learning objects: standard small chunks put together and done in a rapid e-learning experience. example: Google Earth + local pizza parlors + your personal photographs on top of that. Admittedly, I never had the pleasure or displeasure of sampling her menus, so I cant say if this method worked for her, but Ive found it works for me in the kitchen. Now Im not saying that SMEs are rats, or instructional designers are rats. There are still those who follow the recipe and end up with burnt yuck. Even a rat. Great post!

Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Im just raising some questions. I guess Im saying the focus should be less on "gaming" and more on use of new technology (social networking sites, gadgets, etc.) I dont have a conclusion here. Its all really muddy.

Lets see a practical example. The gradebook module uses a formula to convert scores for activities to an aggregated lesson score at a range from 1 and 100 - and subsequently to a grade (e.g, A, B, C, Fail, Pass) depending on how it is setup. For example. If I notice Im losing someones attention in class, Ill instantly make direct eye-contact, maybe raise an eyebrow, and start talking directly to that student, and most of the time. Im the same when teaching face-to-face -- big user of the laugh to create connection. you get their attention again.
