Lectora on the list? Output to MP4, so you can stick it into any authoring tool that supports it – as part of a course or standalone page. Mobile comes via MP4, but no Tin Can support. I walked away saying WOW. Why isn’t? Not a top ten IMO. Solid product but frankly there are a lot of products that beat it.

Lectora on the other hand, has an online authoring tool, but for whatever reason continues to have it lag behind in features to their desktop tool, and continues to push their VR authoring tool more so, in my opinion, then the authoring tool itself. Many buyers of Articulate think that Storyline is an online authoring tool, it isn’t.

Lectora is SaaS based, which is great, but their desktop version has more options. More and more vendors are going SaaS and I wouldn’t be surprised if Captivate goes that route in the next few years? Why do I say that? Because Adobe announced a while back that its very popular product CS would only be available in the cloud.

No one used Claro, nor Lectora. Anyway, regarding the 3rd party authoring tools, I went around my room and asked each attendee what authoring tool they were using (those who used 3rd party). The winner? Articulate. But the stunner? Articulate Storyline 2. Only one person used Captivate and one used Studio.

Nor Lectora. But, for the second year in a row, I found the vast majority of HE people in my sessions use 3rd party authoring tools. The most popular? In my workshop this year, not one person was using Studio. It was by far Storyline 2 or the older version of Storyline. A close race between Blackboard and Moodle.
