Tool Issue: XMind, WorldMapper, Balsamiq, VoiceThread, EtherPad, and Flowgram
DECEMBER 29, 2008
This is maybe a less intimidating version of some of the functionality embedded in VoiceThread (below). You set up an account at VoiceThread and upload your video, or your pictures, and then either share the link or embed the video in your site. Oh wait, what about the ability to export your VoiceThread to something like say an iPod? I did want to pass along WorldMapper.

Seven more online icebreakers

Voice icebreakers You may use a service like Voicethread to create a short video to which participants may comment. A disadvantage of this icebreaker may be that not everybody may be comfortable enough using voicethread. I've noticed my post about 10 online icebreakers is very popular. It gets often linked from online courses too. All those heavy reflections. Let's get very practical.

Skype, Zorap and Stixy
Spark Your Interest
APRIL 1, 2010
One that I think I might try out is Stixy , which is a more asynchronous option – upload stuff and people can comment on it, kind of like Voicethread meets Google Docs. I was watching Jay Cross talk about Good Practice (thanks to this brilliant online community) and Jay mentioned a service called Zorap , which I immediately – after watching the online video interviews – surfed to and checked out. Apart from the few sleazy featured rooms which smack of Chatroulette (with Family Filter on, must make sure to never turn it off!), Learning Technologies Social Learning

Voicethread , this is a content/media centric – you invite people to record their comments (voice or text). There are always too many tools to track, but I have a compulsion to track ‘em down, so I might as well just share. Imagination cubed , this fun little one from GE allows you to draw on an online whiteboard, invite friends to join you and replays your drawing movements. I liked their GUI, but since you are working online, there’s not a lot of editing, which would take some getting used to. The “stamps are good, too. Click on the link to see mine.
Top 100 Tools For Learning 2010 – C4LPT Survey
OCTOBER 25, 2010
On my list to try out soon are Jing, Glogster, Voicethread, Animoto, Zotero & ipadio. The final list of top 100 tools for learning for 2010 is now out on Jane Hart’s website. I understand this list is more inclined towards tools that learning professionals use for their own learning as opposed to those used for creating learning programs or training sessions. Create a Voicethread with the neighbourhood map and allow others to share their favorite coffee spots, lunch places or secret walks. There are people who are really interested in helping organizations deal with social media for external purposes – marketing, product development, user communities, and then there are those that are more interested in helping organizations figure out how to incorporate social media internally – learning, user support, communities of practice and so forth. Are there any folks that are helping organizations deal with this challenge holistically?

Corporate Learning Trends and Innovations Kick-off
NOVEMBER 17, 2008
Despite the fact that Jane Hart and I work with one another on togetherLearn , I had never used — or even heard of — VoiceThread, nvu, or Yugma. As a co-host, I am hardly without bias, but I found this morning’s opening of the free Corporate Learning Trends event fantastic. In spite of some childish hacker-vandals and a few sound issues, each of the three sessions this morning worked. The proliferation of free learning tools certainly comes at the right time. A play within a play. Captivating. His slides were technological minimalism. (I’ve Lots.).
Keeping Up - April's Big Question
APRIL 2, 2010
April's Big Question from Learning Circuits is "How to Keep up?" This is in reference the immense and rapidly expanding technology tools. It is tough to stay on top of all the emerging tools. However, being involved in an e-learning community is a big help. For me it is a blog community and following many experts on Twitter. Not only am I often made aware of new tools, but also get opinions, tips, and examples of their use. You can never keep up with it all, but access to many experts who are also finding and sharing the lastest tech tools make it much less daunting.
