Kapp ASTD 2014 (ATD) Slides and Notes

Kapp Notes

Had a great time at ASTD 2014 this year (now known as ATD-Association of Talent Development). This provides ownership and a sense of choice. The goal was to model how these three elements can be integrated to provide an engaging and meaningful learning experience. This avoids repetition and provides another method of engagement through novelty of new question types.

Design Day and the ASTD Big Question for July

Kapp Notes

Around the same time, the ASTD Learning Circuits Blog had the July "Big Question" which was "Choosing Tools" which is actually a series of questions: How does the eLearning design process need to change to accommodate such a wide variety of tools? It is not a matter of choosing the right "tool" but choosing the right vehicle within the tool to provide the desired learning effect. I left a comment on Tony Karrer's blog about creating a "Design Day" so that everyone in the blogosphere adds a comment about the importance of instructional design as opposed to focusing on technology.

21 Brilliant Resources for Up-skilling Learning Designers (for the Informal & Social Learning Age)

THE QUOTE: “ Instructional designers need to run, not walk, away from classroom-thinking and get to the point of providing short, quick business focused learning points that are easily accessible when and where our learners need them. That said, there are rich skill statements out of places like ASTD and LPI.” – Clark Quinn (in our interview with him). “ As more learning designers become aware of the latest research, through their Personal Learning Networks, it will eventually take hold. This means leveraging new technologies to deliver non-traditional instruction.”- Karl Kapp.

2009 Top Posts and Topics: Kapp Notes

Kapp Notes

The ASTD Big question this month is an annual question: What did you learn about learning in 2009? So, I teamed with alumni Robyn Defelice at Dishing Design and updated the article for ASTD. The Metro DC ASTD chapter asked me to do an interview about audio in e-learning and I linked to the interview and shared some of my notes. This post attempts to provide some tips for avoiding that fate. This month, I worked with Tony Karrer to help create the ASTD Big Question (which always seems to be multiple questions under one big theme.)
