The exercises makes the learners reflect on their own brand preferences and their reasons for it. The exercise requires them to respond to particular situations. Can these kind of exercises have one correct answer? These exercises are extremely powerful. How may times have you been told by a SME or a client that all exercises must have the right and wrong answer? Still this year I managed to run 3 sprint-length triathalons, a couple of 5Ks and one half-marathon (it wasn’t pretty). THE LEARNING GENERALIST | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2008 Force - field exercise Today I tried a forcefield exercise in the retrospective. Sometimes retrospectives could lose their effectiveness when they become too repetitive. generally like to mix things up and enjoy keeping distinct themes around the retro; such as gauging mood, generating insights, setting goals and closures. like the metaphor of a speedboat/ hot air balloon and I used that instead of a plain jane force field. Ask participants to think of the anchors that hold them back from achieving that goal and the fuel thats driving them. Timebox the activity. Sumeet Moghe, 2009. MORE >> -

BRAVE NEW ORG | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 New Leadership Model: An Exercise in Bifurcation My thinking, learning, and writing tends to fall into the theoretical camps that propose how technology, leadership and learning can (or should) converge to improve the health, productivity and culture of an organization. Isolating any of them does none of us any good. Recently, however, I’ve been spending more time thinking about the traits of an individual leader – specifically in the context of technology, leadership and learning. Last year I wrote about “ The Anatomical Dissection of a Healthy Organization ”. and not for vanity sake). Perhaps it was overly complex. probably this one). MORE >> -

UPSIDE LEARNING BLOG | THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2009 Upside Board Game Exercise - Download the Winning Game While we spoke about putting the board games created during Upside’s board game creation exercise up for download, it’s taken us a couple of weeks to get here. There were a few realizations during this exercise that challenged my notions. Designing, prototyping, developing and play-testing a board game is one thing, packaging it for everyone to play is another. The individual who was lucky enough to convert it from physical prototype to a printable version learned much about game design while creating the PDF. We wanted to keep the packaging simple and easy to use. MORE >>
